Synopsis
Maria (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) is an Italian woman living in a small town, making sandals to support herself and her two children after her husband Vincenzo moves to America in search of a better life. After months without hearing from him, Maria decides to take matters into her own hands and travels to New York City with her children to find him. Upon her arrival, Maria discovers that Vincenzo has remarried and is expecting a child with his new American wife (Brooke Shields). Left alone in the big city, Maria encounters a lucky twist of fate that leads her to a job in a teleshopping program, where viewers take notice of her sandals. As demand for her unique footwear grows, the show's host tries to monopolize the lucrative business. Eventually, Maria proves that the idea and method of making the sandals originated from her, leading to a successful partnership with her husband's second wife as they navigate their shared challenges and form a friendship
