Divine Intervention (2002) – Widescreen DVD – Palestinian Satirical Drama Directed by Elia Suleiman | Avatar Films Release
Love, absurdity, and resistance at a checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem. In this Cannes Jury Prize-winning film, Elia Suleiman crafts a surreal, darkly comic portrait of Palestinian life under occupation. Through silent gazes and poetic vignettes, a man from Jerusalem and a woman from Ramallah share fleeting moments of intimacy at an Israeli checkpoint. Their love story unfolds amid scenes of bureaucratic madness, military absurdity, and quiet rebellion. With echoes of Jacques Tati and Buster Keaton, Suleiman’s deadpan direction delivers a powerful meditation on identity, resistance, and the human cost of conflict.
