Handpainted Japanese or Chinese Wood Coaster Unusual

Here we have a handpainted wood coaster. We strongly believe this was hand painted. I can feel roughness over the designs like paint. We believe this is a coaster because of the low part in the center. It is unusual, and unique. It looks like it had a sticker on the back at 1 time but was removed. It also has some small nicks in the wood back side. I can't figure out if this is real wood, or a wood type of composition. It feels like real wood to me. It measures 4 inches in diameter.
